LOUIS FROSH began his art studies at the Theodore Keane School of Art in Toledo, Ohio. After three years serving with the US Army in Europe, Louis lived in Columbus where he studied painting under Frederick Burckart and worked as a designer at the Warner P. Simpson Company, a commercial printer. After a few years, he moved to Chicago where he began a career in the Graphic Arts, working as a designer, art director, and consultant in Advertising and Editorial design for several of the leading agencies and studios. At one point, Louis and his Irish-born wife moved to Ireland for three years where Louis designed a line of Irish linen place mat sets and glass cloths, which were accepted at The Design Center in London as “Best of British Design.” Louis often refers to this period as “his sabbatical.” He has had one-man shows in Ireland and Chicago, and has received awards from The Chicago Art Directors Club, The Chicago Artists Guild, and The National Agricultural Marketing Association. His work is in public and private collections in England, Ireland, Canada, and the US. Since moving to Santa Fe in 1988, Louis has contributed to design projects for The Palace of the Governors, The Santuario de Guadalupe, and The New Mexico Community Foundation. He continues to paint, exploring the landscapes of New Mexico and traveling to France and Ireland- two of his favorite subjects. His most recent trip was in June of 2006 when he joined an artists workshop in Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland. You will note that he includes a “c” in his signature, “Frosch,” an idiosyncratic deference to the original spelling of the name. |
